How Does Understanding Conversion Shape Ministry?

This short book was written to help churches rightly understand the difference that a biblical doctrine of conversion should make for teaching, evangelism, discipling, membership, and every other facet of the life of a local church.

Why should you join a church?

Becoming a member of a church is an important, and often neglected, part of the Christian life. Yet the trend these days is one of shunning the practice of organized religion and showing a distaste or fear of commitment, especially of institutions.

Jonathan Leeman addresses these issues with a straightforward explanation of what church membership is and why it’s important. Giving the local church its proper due, Leeman has built a compelling case for committing to the local body.

ولد آدولف بول في الثالث عشر من شباط/فبراير 1927 في عائلة عميدها قسّ إنجيلي معمداني في برلين – ألمانيا، ثالث خمسة أطفال. وفي حزيران/يونيو سنة 1939، اقتبل المعمودية في كنيسة هامبورغ أوتنسن.

دخل مجال الدراسة اللاهوتية فحصل في صيف 1946 على الشهادة الثانوية (الخاصّة بطلبة اللاهوت). ثم بدأ بدراسة اللغات الكتابية العبرية واليونانية بينما دخل جامعة هامبرغ.

بعد إكمال الدراسة في خريف 1950، تطوّع للعمل المرسلي، فذهب إلى ألمانيا الشّرقية، حيث كان، في الفترة 1950-1957، راعيًا لكنيسة برلين لختنبرغ، ثمّ كاتبًا في المجلة الكنسية "الكلمة والعمل". بعد ذلك انخرط في مجال التعليم اللاهوتي، فعمل في "كلية اللاهوت لتحالف الكنائس اللوثرية الحرة في ألمانيا الشرقية" في بوكوف محاضرًا في مادّتي العهد الجديد وعلم العقائد؛ وشغل، في الفترة 1959-1964، منصب مدير الدروس، ثمّ ترقّى في مناصب إلى أن وصل إلى مدير عام الكلية.

تدورُ مناقشاتٌ كثيرةٌ حولَ ما إذا كانت للكنيسةِ مسؤوليّةٌ اجتماعيّةٌ تُجاهَ الفقراءِ، وما إذا كانَ عليها أن تستجيبَ للفقرِ في المجتمعِ المحلّي. وبدلاً من أن يكتفي هذا الكتابُ بانتقاءِ آياتٍ مفردةٍ من الكتابِ المقدّسِ للإجابةِ عن هذا السؤالِ، فإنه يطرحُ السؤالَ التالي: هل الله مهتمٌّ بالفقراءِ؟ ولماذا؟ يتناولُ هذا الكتابُ هذه المسألةَ مستخدمًا منظورًا واسعًا جدًّا. فهو يلقي نظرةً على تاريخ شعبِ اللهِ في العهدِ القديمِ لاستكشافِ نيّة اللهِ تُجاهَ مجتمعٍ وبلدٍ تبعا شرائعَهُ. وهو يحلِّلُ أسبابَ الفقرِ مع الشّعب في العهدِ القديمِ ويستكشفُ الدروسَ المستفادةَ من ذلك. يتفحّصُ هذا الكتابُ أيضًا تعاليمَ يسوعَ حولَ الفقرِ والفقراءِ، ويطرحُ السؤالَ: لماذا قالَ يسوعُ ما قالَه؟ ثمّ يلقي نظرةً على تعاليمِ الكنيسة الأولى وممارساتِها في تمسُّكِها بتعاليمِ يسوعَ والرسلِ. ويناقشُ الكتابُ بالتفصيلِ أيضًا القضايا اللاهوتيّةَ التي تمسُّ أيَّ نقاشٍ حولَ استجابةِ الكنيسةِ للفقرِ.
